Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

missperegrine_334x518Blurb: A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children;, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here – one of whom was his own grandfather – were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow – impossible though it seems – they may still be alive.

WARNING: This book is creepy!

This book is by far the weirdest book I have ever read, and if you thought that Frances Hardinge wrote weird books, then think again! I came across this book because of my best friend, she was talking non stop about it and then she lent it to me to read. So, obviously I read it. The start wasn’t my favourite part of the book, I liked the very first chapter with his granddad telling the stories, but then, I don’t really know, I guess it didn’t fit in as well as the rest of the book. But after the not as good part, came the great part. This book is about a boy who meets a load of children who have strange abilities, and then becomes friends with them. There is a film being made about this book, so read the book before you see the film because the film looks amazing! There is some swearing in the book which I highly doubt will be in the film, but you never know. This book is part of a series, the second one is called ‘Hollow City’ and the third is called ‘Library of Souls’. I can’t wait to read the other two, please give this book a go if you like weirdness and horror.
